Thursday, March 20th 2025…

So, I got my NAD M52 Digital Music Vault (ordered from Germany – vintage 2014 tech) this week. It’s a glorified NAS (RAID 5) server that specifically supports the NAD M50 Digital Music Player (vintage 2014). I also happened across the NAD M51 (DAC and Digital Preamplifier also vintage 2014) to complete my NAD suite. We shall see how it compares with the Vault2i from both a convenience and a performance perspective.

Thursday, March 13th 2025… updating the updates, update…

So apparently something that I use from a plug-in perspective (a connected program) tanks Jetpack (it’s a WordPress plug-in: it’s what I used to create this site). So, what do I know? I know that it’s not the version of php, MySQL level, Malcare (another plug-in) or the Theme (a template). That leaves Really Simple Security and NextGen Gallery.

So, what I think is that since I have SSL enabled with a cert from my hosting provider and a working version of Jetpack on my other site – is add NextGen Gallery and if that works, then I know that it’s Really Simple Security and it doesn’t play well with Jetpack.

<<Update>> It’s NextGen Gallery (another WordPress Plug-in) that won’t work with Jetpack – I never would have guessed it was a graphic plug-in. Conflicting security programs – nope. Flipping graphics.

Tuesday, March 4th 2025…just when you think you understand, they sow the seeds of confusion…

I may need to rethink my position. I currently have my own website/blog (you’re reading it) and it is hosted by iPowerWeb or maybe it’s just called iPower now. They have been hosting my site that I know of since 2007 – scratch that. I thought they were hosting it. As it turns out, hosting is a funny term. Is it where the DNS server is? Is it where the files are? Is it where the domain name resides? Is it something else? Sucuri was hosting it – which is a website firewall service that apparently was protecting my site. I may need to go back there – we shall see. I thought I terminated my service with them. Maybe I still have some residuals with them. I don’t know why they held on to it (my DNS records) without notifying me. They were a pretty good service and was good value, I had minimal hacks which I can’t say about where its currently at, but here I have other safeguards. We shall see. I want to try and figure out what the hell I need Jetpack for, and why did I buy it initially?

Friday, July 19 2024… Just when you think you have everything figured out…

So, applications have been giving me a hard time this week. If it wasn’t Duo Lingo, it was my blog, or some application at work. Duo-Lingo kept giving me errors no matter what I would do. I was having a hard time getting anything accomplished. So, I filed a bug note with the app manufacturer. I tried all the suggestions they had, from uninstalling the application to restarting the app. Turns out, since I have 3 wireless routers (SSIDs) in my house, the one that was the most convenient was not connecting to the app. It’s lack of connection was causing the errors. Change the WAP, problem solved! Couldn’t log into my blog for a few weeks! I forgot that all I have to do is disable some of my more esoteric plug-ins, the problem goes away! I still have to make everything work together though.

I am sore today. My trainer was on vacation this week, so I worked out by myself. I guess I tend to push myself harder than usual. Chest sore, triceps sore, shoulders sore, Hammie’s sore. I’ve been pounding the protein. I think I need to work out more than once per week – just not as hard though. I think my body needs it.

I am working on a watercolor of the Chicago skyline. A friend suggested it. I am still wrestling on the drawing part of things. I may mount it on a board and stretch the paper since its only on 140lb – it is currently on a pad block. Can’t wait for fall and painting again!

Tuesday, April 2nd 2024… Microsoft Azure is interesting…

I have been starting to study for my Azure AZ-900 test which is broad-based Azure concepts. It’s been fairly interesting and a lot of things I can apply to my website (from a concepts perspective). Which has been good for me. I would really like to put my site on Azure, but I wonder how much that would cost me? It would probably be cost prohibitive since my stuff is just a glorified blog and a personal opinion blog at that – lame.

I started doing a portrait last week of Leo. I am planning on using acrylic paint tonight painting and a smallish 11×14 portrait, with the plan on cutting it down to fit an 8×10 frame – matted.

In duo lingo, I started doing Russian in lieu of Dutch. Just for a break. I’ll come back to Dutch. Russian is like an old friend. I learned Russian back at the university for Physics.

Monday, March 25th…I will admit…

Yeah, I’m kinda bummed that I haven’t rode since last weekend. I need to do something for cardio and strength training between my sparse rides and my one night at the gym. We shall see. I am going to my brother’s house to celebrate Easter this next weekend. All the family should be there – can’t wait! I love family get togethers.

My arm tendonitis has been bugging me lately and my pectoral/shoulder tie in has been painful, which may be some more tendonitis. It’s hell getting old. I’ll see this evening. I am going to head downstairs to my home-gym. Also, I have some work to do after work – a CDC table synch that should improve performance on the portal.

I got my blood draw this morning but as luck would have it, I forgot about it, and I ate breakfast – doh!

Thursday, February 8th 2024… Greetings, and Happy New Year…

Happy New Year!!! So, what the heck is new?

Been learning Music on Duo Lingo and its ok – not great, but ok. A few of the features that I don’t like are that the notes traverse too fast – there should be a way to slow it down, and the virtual keyboard is too tiny for my hands. Other than that, it’s been fun. I can’t wait to bust out my little electric piano and test my music chops 🙂 Also, I’ve been working on my Dutch. Being a grandfather has been fun and seeing the little fart grow is interesting.

I joined something with Peter Attia to work on my health (he’s a longevity doctor) and have been actively working on my health. After reading his book “Outlive”, I decided that if I wanted to healthily retire, I’d better get off my ass and get healthier. So, I’ve been doing just that. My trainer retired in August, and I hadn’t done a lick of cardio or strength training since. Got a new trainer and am looking forward to getting healthier for a new year.

I am (have been) studying for Microsoft Azure Cloud certification (AZ 900). It’s kind of a high-level Azure certification. Trying to get current concerning cloud computing and big data. It would just be more of an evolution of what I do.

Wednesday, July 19th 2023 … Really?…

Every time something works, why do they have to change it? My camera hurdle is now trying to connect it to my iPhone. Wireless that used to be intuitive, is now complex and Bluetooth? How complicated do you need to make Bluetooth? WTF. Gotta be compatible with 40 different types of named cameras? Why? What is the point? They had a product that worked. Make one with more options, greater complexity, add graphics. Why? Why did users choose google? They chose google. Because it was graphics minimalistic. Not because it was better – initially. It loaded much faster and cut the crap. It didn’t try and ram huge files down your throat. I wish they would have asked my opinion :). I’ll try and see if I can find a YouTube vid on the subject (connecting SnapBridge). Thanks Nikon – not.
